Meet the Coaches
In addition to the coaches listed below, our team invites additional cheer experts in to assist as needed with teaching and evaluating routines.
Meg Trott, Head Cheer Coach
Meg began coaching at Charleston Gymnastics in 1996 and has over ten years of experience teaching Preschool, Recreation, All-Star Cheer and Team levels. When she was younger, she took several years of dance and gymnastics, and was reintroduced to the sport as a cheerleader at James Island High School, where she served as co-captain/captain and choreographed routines for statewide competitions, in addition to participating in softball and track.
Meg earned a Bachelor’s degree in Communication from the College of Charleston in 2002 and completed her Master’s degree in Communication in May 2009. She has previously worked as a communications professional for the College of Charleston, Blackbaud, and LifePoint, Inc., and is a USAG Pro Member and USAG Safety Certified.
Meg coaches all squad levels and became accredited through the US All-Star Federation in Summer 2008. Meg is also First Aid/CPR certified through the American Red Cross.
Kristin Blair, Assistant/Head Cheer Coach
Kristin has over nine years of All-Star cheerleading experience with the Cheer Dynamics Rockets of Fayetteville, North Carolina. She has lived in Charleston for the last seven years and earned a degree in Dental Hygiene at Trident Technical College in May 2009.
Kristin is currently CPR certified and now in her second season coaching both of our competitive cheerleading squads, as well as coaching camps and clinics for CGTC. She is the head coach for the Senior squad.
Haley Long, Assistant Cheer Coach
Haley was a competitive gymnast with Charleston Gymnastics for over five years (competiting at Prep. Opt. Platinum), and is currently cheering on the James Island Charter High School Varsity Competition squad, who won the Regional Championship title last season. She has cheered for over five years, and previously assisted in choreographing her squad's competition routines.
Haley is in her second season of working with all levels of our competitive cheer program, as well as assisting with cheer clinics and our recreational gymnastics program.
Matt Roberts, Tumbling Coach
Matt has worked in many areas of athletics, including two years of coaching the Boys' Gymnastics Team at Thomas Gymnastics (Rock Hill, S.C.) and working as a baseball umpire for little league teams. He currently coaches tumbling, recreational and team level gymnastics at CGTC. Matt is currently attending the College of Charleston to study Exercise Science. After graduating in 2011, he hopes to start a career in physical therapy.
Matt is in his second year of working as a tumbling coach for the James Island All-Stars.
